Over the year I have learnt new skills and programmes. Prezi is my new favourite presentation method. I have also learnt how to use the Vinyl cutter with Steve and the lazer cutter making my final out comes a strong finished product. My final outcomes have been stronger in my second year as I have learnt to source my own materials also.
During my second year I found finding a valuable work placement the most difficult. I was lucky to work alongside luxury women’s tuxedo brand RACIL in London for 2 weeks helping out with buying, distribution and office work. Each day involved a new task. Duties involved making swing tags, picking collection for distribution, sending gifts, luxury packing, fabric samples etc. Not only did I learn a lot about working for the brand I learnt a lot about myself. I had to be independent and use my own initiative. Racil and work partner Pauline’s expectations were high and I was in charge of the office phone which meant I had to fully understand the business, be quick thinking and resolve problems. Working in the brand and learning about how to run your own business has inspired me to want my own. Advice I received from Pauline was to work in a lot of internships. She said experience is key and the industry will employ those with standout experience.
After graduation I no longer want to carry on my education. After looking at different courses at UAL in London, my main focus is instead, to get a full time job. I would also like to explore first-hand experience in different job roles and I hope to work in at least 3 different work placements. In the future I may decide to carry on my top up level.
