Recently I have been driven to develop my fashion skills within my current job at Topman. I was assigned a task today to be responsible for styling a set of male mannequins to be located in the Mall. The purpose of the display was to advertise a promotional 10% discount for football season ticket holders in a built up towards the massively celebrated Derby match. The brief was to dress the mannequins in smart but casual wear, very customer based with nothing eccentric, as if going out for this occasion which was held on Easter Sunday. I also had to involve a SAFC football shirt, hat and scarf into the display. This was my first ever experience of styling mannequins on my own. With no time to look at inspiration, I used my knowledge from observation on how Topman customers dress for this kind of event. I mixed new stock items and popular items into the outfits. I panicked during this task being so determined to impress. In future tasks like this I need to be more confident in my decisions. I was thrilled with how the mannequins looked once I was finished and felt a sense of achievement after my first Visual Merchandising task. This morning I went to view the display in the Mall. I received great feedback from my manager and she was impressed at my first attempt.
