My collaboration with Dr Martens and Henry Holland has been my most successful. I loved the creativity involved in this project and it allowed me to show off my advanced digital skills. My in depth research and passion for a strong concept is what pushed my project to such a high level. I like how there is a strong theme which runs through the project and it looks impressive when I lay my work out to photograph.
Using photo editing skills I learnt in the previous look book project, I enhanced a selection of my favourite photos I took in New York.
What better store to participate in a tour with than the Macys flag ship store. The tour guide led us through the floors and told us the history on how Macys became the triumph it is today. I learnt facts about how Macys evolved how we shop today. Macys was the first ‘dry goods’ store to only accept cash rather than trading. They were also the proud owner of the first public ‘moving staircase’ which I got to ride one of the serval still in operation. The tour got even better when the guide began to deliver jackpot information about promotional events Macys have hosted. I managed to make list events from a flower show, children’s author readings, men’s fashion classes, cooking classes and a recent performance from Jessie Jay. To celebrate their American heritage, Macys also hosts an annual Thanks giving parade; a tradition that started back in 1924. Previously animals from central park zoo were used on this parade but now giant balloons are marched through the streets of New York. Our tour guide explained the buzz it creates about the store each year and how the parade is televised as is has become such a monumental event. All of this information is a valuable as inspiration for my current fringe event project. As a gift from Macys, I received a 10% off voucher after the tour. Yes, I see the promotional trick here! And it defiantly worked. Obviously just for the fact I was getting 10% off and me being me, I had to indulge in a Marc Jacobs necklace. Oops.
